Le lègue de l'ère industrielle des 19e et 20e siècles, en l'occurence la prolifération de terrains contaminés, fait de plus en plus fréquemment obstacle au développement de notre société. À ce titre, la conscientisation grandissante des risques pour la santé humaine et des impacts sur les milieux naturels reliés à la contamination des terrains induisent des volontés de réhabilitation de ceux-ci qui se heurtent très souvent à des considérations historiques, économique, juridiques et factuelles qui ne peuvent être écartées aisément.
