Previously serving as Chairman of the Florida Bar Environmental and Land Use Section, as well as acting as the in-house counsel for TECO Energy, Inc. from 1988 to 1992, George F. Gramling III has amassed nearly 40 years’ worth of environmental, energy and land regulation law experience, working with clients in both the private and public sectors. Currently, Gramling is being recognized by Best Lawyers as Tampa’s 2022 Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year” for his continued efforts to ensure the environmental safety and future of the Tampa Bay community.

“The Florida Environmental Attorney Bar is a relatively small universe of people. Having worked with most of them on cases, projects, legislation and other Florida Bar matters, I can say that my peers reflect the highest level of integrity and competence. Our firm has been a leader in the development of Florida environmental jurisprudence such as the Florida Brownfield Program, the application of Risk Based Corrective Action and many other facets of regulation and stewardship.”

Participating in the Environmental and Land Use Law Section of the Florida Bar and in a number of seminars/publications gives us the opportunity to collaborate with our peers in many capacities. I am grateful to receive this rating and honor from my peers.”

Graduating with his J.D. from the University of Florida in 1983, Gramling has seen firsthand just how drastically the field of environmental and energy law have changed since then, only anticipating both practice areas to grow in popularity.

“Energy Law is going to grow, just like environmental law began in the 1960’s and has grown to encompass all facets of our lives. A great Energy Law attorney has a deep historical perspective on the development of our current energy technology and is on the forefront of emerging regulation. After 37 years in this career field, I’ve come across so many interesting facts, patterns and clients to know environmental law will only continue to intersect with our everyday lives.”
