Jay P. Farmer

Since starting at Lugenbuhl in 2015, Jay has developed a keen eye for spotting solutions and legal arguments that carries across his litigation work. Jay has experience with commercial matters large and small including corporate litigation in the oil and gas realm, directors and officers claims, breach of contract claims and foreclosures.

Jay’s insurance coverage practice has involved numerous cases large and small centered around various liability coverage forms including general liability, employers’ liability and oil and gas. He has also been heavily involved in first party insurance claims stemming out of hurricanes, fires, explosions and other occurrences. Further, Jay has a wealth of experience in bad faith claims and knows the ins and outs of Louisiana’s unique Direct Action Statute. Jay has begun getting on the cutting edge of issues in the developing area of insurance surrounding cybersecurity and electronically-stored information and property.

Mr. Farmer has also begun to develop expertise in the maritime and energy realms. He is working on cases involving tugs, tows and logistical support for the offshore energy industry and has recently begun working for multinational offshore drilling contractors primarily in the Gulf coast.

Jay is a 2015 graduate of Tulane Law School (roll wave) where he graduated cum laude and was the Senior Managing Editor if Volume 17 of the Tulane Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property and was in charge of the production and editing of that volume. Jay is a passionate sports fan and while in law school represented Tulane in the National Baseball Arbitration Competition and won the inaugural inter-Tulane NFL contract negotiation competition. As an undergraduate, Jay was a member of Boston College’s club golf team and he still counts golf as his favorite out of work activity.
