Katy began her legal career with Holland & Hart in 1980 and joined the law firm of Miller & Steiert in 1985. Her law practice has been devoted to the area of employment law, representing both employers and employees. Her strong interest in striking a balance among differing perspectives, and her deep understanding of the financial and human costs involved in protracted litigation, have led to her commitment to explore alternative methods to resolve employment disputes. In 1997, Katy founded the Littleton Alternative Dispute Resolution group (LADR), through which she serves as an arbitrator, mediator, and independent fact-finder. Since January 2006, she has limited her law practice to assisting parties in resolving their disputes, and now devotes 100% of her time to serving as a neutral. In addition to the services offered as mediator, arbitrator, and independent fact finder, she also serves as a Monitor of Class Action Settlement Agreements/Consent Decrees for the federal government. Katy is co-managing editor of The Practitioner’s Guide to Colorado Employment Law, originally published in 1998. She is named in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Labor and Employment Law, and is a member of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. She has lectured extensively to lawyers and human resource professionals on a variety of employment issues. Katy has been named by her peers as a Super Lawyer/ADR Professional since 2006.
