Élise Théorêt

Élise Théorêt is a lawyer in the litigation group in Langlois Lawyers’ Montréal office. Her practice is diverse and incorporates civil, penal and administrative litigation, as well as advice on environmental law issues.

Élise is mainly involved in litigation matters in environmental law for private and parapublic companies. She represents clients in civil actions for contaminated lands, historical migration of contaminants, hidden defects, neighbourhood disturbances, injunctions and claims for damages.

She defends clients in penal actions at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, in proceedings instituted pursuant to the Fisheries Act, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and the Environment Quality Act. Élise represents clients who apply for the review of monetary administrative penalties. She has appeared before the Court of Québec and the Superior Court, in addition to having participated in the preparation of motions filed in the Court of Appeal of Québec and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Élise provides environmental counselling, in the field of pulp and paper, residual hazardous waste, factory manufacturing and processing, remediation of contaminated lands and mining. She also advises clients with regards to potential civil, penal and administrative liability.

Élise frequently writes articles dealing with water protection and natural resources in Québec and has presented numerous conferences, notably on the potential liability of environmental consultants, and on the general principles of environmental law.
