Richard Bereti is the Chair of Harper Grey's Environmental Law Group, and is an active member of the firm's Commercial Litigation Group. He also serves as the firm's Managing Partner.
Richard is the author of the book, British Columbia Environmental Management Legislation & Commentary. He is former adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia, and often speaks at continuing education and industry conferences on environmental issues. Richard has been recognized by Chambers Canada, Lexpert® Canada and Best Lawyers in Canada® as a leading lawyer.
Richard provides advice on liability issues arising under the Environmental Management Act, the Contaminated Sites Regulation and other provincial and federal environmental statutes. He advises owners of commercial property, commercial and industrial enterprises of all sizes, developers, parent companies, engineers, consultants and directors and officers.
Businesses and industry across Canada count on Richard to represent them in some of their most significant environmental matters. As a result, he has acted in some of BC's leading environmental cases, including Beazer, Gehring and Morguard (EAB). He negotiates with provincial and federal agencies and, where necessary, argues before the courts and Environmental Appeal Board. Richard handles cases in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory, and advises clients across Canada and outside our borders.
Originally from Regina, Richard usually spends part of his summer vacation with his young family at their lakeside cabin in Saskatchewan.
