Yau Lee

Yau Lee is a Partner and Mediator at Nachlis Cohade Lopez-Whitaker LLP in San Francisco, California. She is a Certified Family Law Specialist and represents clients in a wide range of Family Law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, property division, and mediation. Yau approaches each case with a focus on practical solutions, thoughtful advocacy, and efficient resolution whenever possible.

While prepared to litigate when necessary, Yau believes many family law disputes can be resolved through strategic negotiation and clear communication. She is known for developing well-reasoned legal arguments and using persuasive written advocacy to help clients pursue favorable resolutions outside of court. Her approach emphasizes cost-conscious representation and reducing unnecessary conflict while protecting her clients’ interests.

Growing up in an immigrant family, she witnessed firsthand the difficulties many non-English speakers faced when navigating the legal system. Those experiences shaped her commitment to providing compassionate and accessible legal counsel and helping clients make informed decisions during significant life transitions.

Yau has also dedicated time to community service and legal outreach. She has assisted self-represented litigants through court programs, participated in pro bono legal services for Community Law Night in San Mateo County, and served as a mentor and career panelist for the Community Youth Center in San Francisco.

Before entering private practice, Yau served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Monica F. Wiley, the Honorable Lillian K. Sing (Ret.), and the Honorable Ronald E. Alberts of the San Francisco Unified Family Court. Her experience working within the court system provides valuable insight into Family Law proceedings and dispute resolution.

Outside of her legal practice, Yau is an endurance athlete who has completed more than 10 marathons and six half-Ironman triathlons. The discipline and focus required for endurance sports continue to influence her calm and steady approach to complex Family Law matters.
