Biography
William Savino is a partner at Rivkin Radler LLP in Uniondale, New York, and is a member of the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups. His practice focuses on Insurance Law and Litigation - Insurance, and he represents clients in complex coverage and commercial disputes in trial and appellate courts throughout the United States.
Bill has represented insurers in a wide range of significant coverage matters, including the September 11 World Trade Center Liability Coverage Litigation, the BPA-Plastic Products Coverage Litigation, and Shell Oil Company v. Aetna Casualty and Surety Company. His work also includes representing insurers in class actions involving underwriting and claims procedures as well as insurance coverage disputes involving intellectual property liabilities, business torts, environmental matters, antitrust issues, and reinsurance claims.
In addition to his insurance-related work, Bill served as lead counsel in Nassau County’s litigation opposing financial oversight by the Nassau Interim Finance Authority and in matters involving tax-related claims brought against the County.
Bill frequently speaks at programs across the United States on issues affecting the insurance industry and litigation practice. His presentations have addressed topics such as reinsurance, fracking-related liabilities, medical monitoring “no injury” claims, privacy issues, terrorism-related liabilities, and the relationship between primary and excess insurers.
He also serves on the panel of neutrals at National Arbitration Mediation, where he participates in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Bill is active in professional and civic organizations. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Long Island Association and serves on the Boards of Directors of Fireman’s Fund Indemnity Corporation, where he chairs the audit committee, and the Insurance Federation of New York, Inc. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long Island’s United Way and as President of the Nassau County Bar Association. His community service also includes serving as Mayor of the Village of Old Brookville, New York, and as President of the Villanova University Alumni Association.
Bill served as Chair of the State of New York Tenth Judicial District’s Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission. He also has been appointed by the Chief Judge of the State of New York to committees addressing the implementation of a pro bono service requirement for attorneys seeking admission to the New York Bar and the review of the rules governing the Commercial Division of the New York State Supreme Court. In addition, he was elected a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation in 2014.
