Walter Weir, Jr., Esquire is the founder and named partner of Weir LLP (formerly Weir & Partners LLP) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For more than 44 years, he has represented businesses, financial institutions, lenders, creditors and other clients in complex business, banking and commercial law matters. His practice includes Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Commercial Litigation.
Mr. Weir has served as trial counsel in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Florida and the District of Columbia. He has represented clients in high-stakes commercial disputes, creditor rights matters, banking litigation and insolvency-related proceedings. Among his notable matters, Mr. Weir represented CoreStates Bank as trial counsel in litigation that resulted in a Philadelphia jury awarding the plaintiff $352.8 million in direct, consequential and punitive damages. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court later reversed the verdict on appeal and entered judgment in favor of CoreStates Bank, dismissing all claims against the bank.
In addition to his trial work, Mr. Weir has argued appeals before the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Connecticut Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. His experience across trial and appellate courts provides clients with strategic counsel in complex commercial and insolvency-related disputes.
Mr. Weir holds nine bar admissions, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the District of Columbia, as well as admissions to four federal district courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
