Biography
Vance Gibbs is a Baton Rouge, Louisiana attorney with Kean Miller who has practiced in commercial litigation and malpractice defense for more than four decades, with a sustained focus on the healthcare industry. His practice includes defending physicians, medical professionals, physician groups, and clinics in medical malpractice matters, including medical review panel proceedings, lawsuits, peer review hearings, and credentialing issues. He also advises physicians and physician groups on self-insurance programs, risk management and prevention, and healthcare administration.
As a trial lawyer, Vance focuses on the practical and technical aspects of healthcare law and medical malpractice defense. He is known for presenting complex medical and legal issues in a clear and accessible manner for judges and juries. His experience spans state and federal courts throughout Louisiana and beyond, where he regularly defends healthcare providers and businesses facing significant malpractice and commercial litigation.
In addition to his healthcare litigation practice, Vance defends product liability claims involving medical products, medical devices, and pharmaceutical matters. His work in this area complements his broader Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants practice by addressing issues that frequently arise at the intersection of medicine, regulation, and litigation.
Vance has a long-standing commitment to trial advocacy and legal education. In 2010, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Advocacy. Earlier in his career, he completed the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Masters Trial Advocacy Program. He has served for more than fifteen years as a planning committee member and instructor for the Trial Advocacy Program at the LSU Law Center. In addition, he regularly teaches medical students and residents about medical-legal issues and frequently speaks on risk management, medical malpractice defense, and trial advocacy.
Vance has also been actively involved in healthcare-related nonprofit organizations. Following his son’s diagnosis with Crohn’s disease, he dedicated more than two decades of service to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, including service as Chair of the National Board of Trustees.
