Tracy Phillips is a skilled family law attorney serving Maryland and D.C., helping clients navigate every phase of the legal process with a strategic, results-oriented approach. Whether in settlement negotiations or in trial, clients appreciate her proactive nature, meticulous attention to detail, and responsiveness.
Tracy understands the gravity of domestic matters, but she also views divorce as an empowering opportunity for a fresh start. With her approachable yet direct style, she ensures clients are fully informed about their options while leveraging the strengths of their case. As Tracy has explained, “helping my clients make informed decisions is really vital to reaching the best possible result for them as they move ahead in their lives.”
Tracy represents clients in a wide range of family law matters including divorce, custody disputes, alimony, child support, relocation cases, LGBTQ family matters, and protective orders. She has experience handling cases involving international issues and also frequently handles matters involving members of the military. Tracy also regularly drafts and/or advises on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
Tracy excels at managing complex property and financial matters, often collaborating with outside experts such as CPAs, CFPs, appraisers, and business valuation professionals. Her role at Selzer Gurvitch allows her to work closely with colleagues in real estate, estates and trusts, and tax — areas that frequently intersect with domestic issues. Additionally, in high-conflict custody cases, Tracy is skilled at identifying when additional professionals, such as parenting coordinators and mental health experts, are necessary.
Before joining Selzer Gurvitch, Tracy practiced family law for nearly seven years at one of Maryland’s largest law firms. Prior, she practiced commercial litigation at a regional business litigation firm in Washington, D.C., where she handled both jury and bench trials at the state and federal levels. In addition to her courtroom experience, Tracy has taken and defended hundreds of depositions. She is a trained mediator and has also completed Maryland’s Best Interest Attorney training in accordance with the state’s Child Counsel and Custody Rules and Guidelines. Additionally, Tracy is a former Montgomery County Circuit Court judicial law clerk, having clerked for the Honorable Nelson W. Rupp, Jr. following law school. During law school, she advocated for victims of domestic violence and child abuse through internships with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the National Center for Victims of Crime, giving her deep insight into complex family issues.
Tracy is active in the Bar Association of Montgomery County and has been involved in a number of committees, including presently serving a two-year term on its Executive Committee.
