Biography

Todd Bornstein advises individuals and families in Bethesda, Maryland on estate planning, trusts and estates matters, and litigation involving trusts and estates. At Selzer Gurvitch, he draws on his background in both law and accounting to help clients develop estate plans tailored to their personal, family, and financial goals. Todd works closely with clients to explain available options and provide practical guidance on both immediate and long-term planning considerations.

A former Certified Public Accountant, Todd assists clients with estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and gift tax returns, prenuptial agreements, and Litigation - Trusts and Estates matters. His accounting and tax experience supports his work involving complex estate and trust issues, including IRS estate tax audits and high-value estate matters. Todd is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a national organization of trust and estate attorneys.

In addition to his client practice, Todd is active in legal and professional education. He presents continuing education programs for accounting firms, financial organizations, and professional groups on estate planning, estate tax, and trust income tax topics. Through the Maryland State Bar Association, he teaches advanced estate planning courses for attorneys and has spoken at programs hosted by the Department of Justice, the AICPA National Tax Conference, and other organizations.

Todd is also committed to community service and pro bono initiatives. He has served as co-chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee and has participated in the Wills for Heroes program since 2005. Through that program, he teaches volunteer attorneys who assist first responders with wills, powers of attorney, and related estate planning documents. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.

Todd earned his J.D., with honors, from the University of Maryland School of Law and completed a judicial clerkship with the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. He is active in the Maryland State Bar Association’s Estates and Trusts Section Council and currently serves as chair-elect, with plans to serve as chair during the 2026-2027 term. Todd previously chaired the MSBA’s Taxation Section Council and co-chaired the MSBA & MACPA Advanced Tax Institute. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
