Todd Bell is a Partner at Farris LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a litigator with courtroom experience at all levels of court in British Columbia. His practice focuses on Family Law and Family Law Mediation, with an emphasis on resolving disputes through negotiated agreements and mediation whenever possible. When matters cannot be resolved outside the courtroom, Todd represents clients through litigation and trial proceedings.
Todd advises clients on a broad range of family law matters, including the division of high net-worth assets involving complex corporate structures, trusts, foreign property, and pensions. He also represents clients in parenting and custody disputes, relocation matters, Hague Convention proceedings, adoption litigation, and applications involving protection from family violence. His work regularly involves complex financial and parenting issues affecting individuals and families across British Columbia.
Called to the British Columbia bar in 2008 after earning his LLB in 2007, Todd has remained active in the legal community through teaching, writing, and professional leadership. He has served as adjunct faculty at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia and previously acted as Co-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Family Law Subsection following several years on its executive. Todd has also contributed to legal education and publications through his longstanding involvement with the Editorial Board of the Family Law Practice Manual (CLEBC) since 2012 and the Family Law Sourcebook (CLEBC) beginning in 2022.
In addition to his legal practice at Farris LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia, Todd regularly chairs conferences and presents papers on family law topics for organizations including CLEBC, TLABC, LSS, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Access Pro Bono Court of Appeal program.
Outside of work, Todd enjoys wilderness canoeing and has paddled hundreds of kilometres throughout Ontario, the Yukon, British Columbia, and northern Saskatchewan. He lives in Vancouver with his spouse, son, and two Labrador Retrievers.
