Biography

Tim Strickland is a trial partner in the Houston office of Kean Miller, where he represents clients in Admiralty and Maritime Law and Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants. Based in Houston, Texas, he has practiced law for more than 33 years across Texas and the Gulf Coast. His background includes service as managing partner of the Houston office of a multi-state maritime litigation firm before joining Kean Miller in 2021. His practice focuses on offshore energy and marine litigation, as well as emergency and incident response matters.

Tim has been involved in significant maritime and offshore energy matters, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the Thunderhorse production platform salvage. In these matters, he worked closely with clients from the earliest stages of each incident and remained involved throughout extended emergency response operations, including sustained work with response centers in Houston.

His litigation experience includes representing defendants in Jones Act claims, maritime and general personal injury matters, emergency response and incident-related claims, premises liability, international salvage disputes, insurance coverage matters, energy construction disputes, and complex international business and trade litigation. Tim has also represented marine terminals in connection with dock damage claims and oil spill response and recovery matters. He has passed the United States Coast Guard O.U.P.V. examination and holds a USCG Captain’s license.

Tim is also involved in international arbitration. He has led trial teams in international marine salvage disputes, including extended hearings in New York City that resulted in a favorable unanimous arbitration award for his client.

In addition, Tim is a Certified Mediator, one of the original arbitrators for the Houston Maritime Arbitration Association, and an officer in the Coastal Conservation Association.

Reflecting his long-standing interest in environmental and resource issues, Tim leads the firm’s Wildlife and Fisheries practice group. This work includes advising and representing clients on wildlife, fisheries, and environmental regulatory matters involving federal and state agencies, including issues arising under the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.
