Biography
Tim is a partner in Blaney McMurtry's Business Restructuring and Insolvency group. His practice focuses on advising owner managed private corporations, together with traditional and non-traditional financial institutions, the accounting firms that provide services to these institutions, and their respective corporate and individual clients.
Over the past 30 years, Tim's practice has evolved from one that focused exclusively on insolvency law and the legal issues that arise in corporate debt restructuring, to one that includes providing strategic advice in connection with the ever-increasing challenges and risks faced by lenders, borrowers, and their financial advisors.
Tim is regularly called upon to provide trusted advice on all aspects of commercial insolvency, debt restructuring and crisis management. His clients include traditional and non-traditional lenders, borrowers, suppliers, landlords, trustees in bankruptcy, Court and privately-appointed receivers and interim receivers, court-appointed monitors, and guarantors of debt owed by corporations in financial distress.
Clients seek Tim out for his reputation in providing practical business and legal solutions, especially in crisis situations. By adopting a holistic approach rather than focusing only on the law, Tim enables clients to make timely, well-informed, and intelligent business decisions that achieve results and mitigate risk. He has become one of Canada’s “go-to” financial services advisors and one of a select few lawyers who are sought out by both the lender and debtor communities.
Tim is a frequent lecturer at professional institutes, legal associations, and banking and business community programs.
Tim is an instrument-rated private pilot, flying single engine land and sea planes. He is currently working toward a commercial pilot’s license.
