Tim Donlan

Tim Donlan is the principal of the boutique South Australian private client law firm Donlan Lawyers.

Donlan Lawyers has offices in Adelaide and in Victor Harbor in South Australia.

Tim practices primarily in the areas of wills and estate planning. He specialises in complex estate planning including trust establishment and succession, wills incorporating testamentary trusts, as well as cross border issues and planning. He also advises in relation to trust disputes and contested estates.

He has a particular interest in family business succession planning as well as in issues involving declining client cognitive capacity and its management as part of the estate planning process.

He is a member of the international Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).

STEP is a global professional body, comprising lawyers, accountants, trustees and other practitioners that help families plan for their futures. Its "mission" is to inspire confidence in families planning their assets across generations by setting and upholding high professional standards, informing public policy, promoting education, and connecting practitioners globally to share knowledge and best practice. Tim was previously a branch committee member of the South Australian Branch Committee of STEP. He has held full TEP status since 2010. Tim is also an associate of the Tax Institute of Australia and writes the article "Successful Succession" for the Tax Institute "Taxation in Australia" journal which article focuses and traps and tips for legal and accounting advisors and a review of updates in the law relating to trusts and succession planning.

Tim is a member of the Law Society of South Australia and Donlan Lawyers is a Gold Member of the Law Society of South Australia.
