Biography
Tom Smith is dedicated to representing public and private institutions, businesses, and municipalities in litigation and compliance matters. With over 25 years of practice, Tom has handled a diverse array of cases in both state and federal courts. His work includes resolving disputes related to shareholder issues, employment discrimination, commercial contracts, and land use and development challenges. Tom has significant experience as lead counsel in labor negotiations for municipal districts and has successfully represented employers before notable agencies such as the NLRB, EEOC, the State Division of Human Rights, and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Additionally, Tom has provided legal services to public school districts, public charter schools, and both public and private colleges, and he currently serves as town attorney for the Town of Newfield.
Tom was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Cornell Law School from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, he led a boutique litigation practice in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and spent time with a major Boston law firm. At the beginning of his legal career, Tom worked as a special assistant district attorney in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His academic achievements include his role as associate editor of the Georgetown Law Journal during his law school tenure.
