Biography
Tom Mitchell has served as Managing Partner and Chair of the Management Committee since 2018 and is a nationally recognized finance lawyer with over 30 years of experience representing financial institutions.
Tom serves in multiple leadership positions at the firm, including as Managing Partner, Chair of the Management Committee, and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. He is also an active member of the firm’s Inclusion & Belonging Committee. Tom served previously as head of the firm’s Financial Services Group helping grow the practice to over 100 lawyers. Tom has spent his entire career at Moore & Van Allen, beginning as a summer associate.
He is a seasoned finance lawyer with extensive experience representing financial institutions in syndicated credit facilities in a wide variety of industries, with a focus on acquisition and leveraged finance. He has been consistently recognized as a leading banking and finance lawyer in Chambers USA, IFLR 1000 and Best Lawyers in America. Chambers USA describes Tom as a “go-to attorney for major financial institutions” and states that peers “think very highly of him.”
Tom is actively involved in the community. He serves on the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council and co-chairs its Community Engagement Team. He also serves on the board of directors and executive committee of Charlotte Center City Partners and is a member of Johnson C. Smith University’s Board of Trustees.
