Biography

Tom Carver has over 36 years of experience handling serious criminal defense issues, including white collar crimes, federal drug crimes and capital murder charges, along with federal gun and sex crimes. A seasoned trial lawyer, he has been listed in "Best Lawyers in America," over the course of several years and also has been listed as a Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyer. He has been selected numerous times for designation as one of the best lawyers in Southwest Missouri by 417 Magazine and is a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Mr. Carver also received the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' Robert Duncan Award for Appellate Excellence and is a former president of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Case History

Cases
  • State v. C.H.
School principal was accused of failing to report child abuse to authorities. The case involved a constitutional attack on the underlying reporting statute but was resolved by a not guilty verdict following a jury trial. This case was the second of two prosecuted, the first being against an emergency room nurse. The first was dismissed at the state''''s request following extensive litigation. Counsel represented both defendants. As a result of these outcomes no other cases of similar nature have been prosecuted by state and local prosecutors.
  • United States v. B.T.
This involved prosecution of the client and his business for criminal violations of federal wage and hour laws. Client was engaged in providing labor for federal building projects. After extensive investigation resulting in the filing of dispositive motions, the case was dismissed.
  • United States v. Israel Ward
The client was indicted on a federal capital murder charges arising out of a drug related double homicide. During the course of prosecution, counsel for Mr. Ward developed evidence of actual innocence that resulted in the Department of Justice reversing its decision to seek the death penalty and ultimately dropping all murder charges.
