Atkins Roberts practices primarily in the areas of commercial finance, real estate and bank regulation. Atkins regularly assists banks, financial institutions, investors, real estate developers and individuals in a broad range of commercial lending activities. He has represented developers (including non-profit corporations), syndicators, equity investors and lenders throughout the Southeast in numerous transactions involving low-income housing tax credits (federal and state).
Atkins is fluent in Spanish and has worked closely with members of the firm's Corporate and Securities and Construction and Government Contracts Practice Groups to assist a number of clients with projects in Latin American markets. His experience in these types of projects includes licensing of intellectual property, negotiating distribution and agency agreements, mergers and acquisitions, forming Mexican and Argentine subsidiary entities for U.S. corporations, negotiating architectural services agreement, establishing warehouse operations and manufacturing plants in Mexico, and the representation the owner in a legal dispute regarding power plant construction in Panama. Additionally, Atkins is a member of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham International Center.
