Biography

Steve Slawinski is a Milwaukee, Wisconsin attorney with more than 40 years of experience representing clients in construction, business, and real estate disputes. As a member of O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong & Laing S.C., he represents general contractors, subcontractors, owners, design professionals, title insurance companies, and insureds in litigation, arbitration, and other dispute-resolution proceedings.

Steve’s practice focuses on construction law and construction litigation. He handles disputes involving commercial, public, and private construction projects, including claims related to construction defects, water intrusion, design professional negligence, construction contracts, subcontracts, competitive bidding, construction liens, payment bonds, and project performance. He also represents clients in real estate title litigation, liability insurance coverage disputes, and commercial and business litigation.

His experience includes defending complex lawsuits arising from commercial construction projects in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kansas City, Missouri. He has represented clients in matters involving projects such as Miller Park and the WE Energies Elm Road Power Plant. Steve also advises contractors and owners regarding construction contracts and subcontracts, and represents contractors, owners, title insurers, and insureds in lien, payment bond, title, and insurance coverage disputes.

Steve has argued cases before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is a past chair of the Wisconsin State Bar Construction and Public Contract Section Board and has been recognized by the Wisconsin Law Journal/Daily Reporter. He regularly speaks at seminars for attorneys and construction industry professionals on construction law and real estate law topics.
