Stan Abrams
is lead attorney at the NC Eminent Domain Law Firm, a division of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. He is known throughout North Carolina for his dedicated advocacy on behalf of property owners facing government takings.

Before entering private practice, Stan served as an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice. In that role, he represented the North Carolina Department of Transportation in condemnation matters across the state, giving him first-hand insight into how eminent domain cases are pursued from the government’s side. That experience now informs his strategic approach when helping protect the rights of landowners.

“My previous experience as a lawyer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation taught me how important I feel it is for a property owner facing condemnation to have an experienced lawyer fighting for them.”

Litigation Experience & Professional Recognition

Stan has argued cases before both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court and has tried numerous jury trials throughout North Carolina. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.* He has also shared his litigation experience as a trial advocacy instructor for the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Stan has earned statewide and national recognition for his dedication and hard work in eminent domain and condemnation law. Best Lawyers named him to the “Best Lawyers” list for Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law for 2024 – 2026, and in 2024, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly honored him on its “Excellence in Law - Icon” list.*

The Path to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin

Raised in Wilson, North Carolina, Stan credits his small-town upbringing with shaping his straightforward, principled approach to practicing law. Growing up in a close-knit community taught him the value of accountability, integrity, and earning trust – qualities that continue to define his relationships with clients. The son of a local attorney, Stan spent time working in his father’s law office from an early age and saw firsthand how the law could be used to help people navigate difficult moments in their lives.

After years of practicing law in Wilson, Stan joined the Department of Justice and took pride in advancing public infrastructure projects. Over time, however, he became increasingly concerned that many property owners lacked experienced legal representation and were accepting compensation that did not necessarily reflect the true value of their land. Recognizing the imbalance, he made the decision to shift his focus and devote his practice and government-side knowledge of eminent domain to representing those whose property was being taken.

Education and Community Involvement

Stan earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill and his undergraduate degree in Pre-Law from Bob Jones University. Beyond his legal practice, he is deeply involved in community service. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards, coached youth sports teams, and acted as Treasurer and Board Member of the Durham Rescue Mission. In recognition of his commitment to public service, the North Carolina Bar Association honored Stan with its 2023 Citizen Lawyer Award.
