Sol Wisenberg has four decades of experience serving as lead counsel in complex federal white-collar investigations and jury trials. He represents individuals and businesses facing federal criminal, regulatory, and civil exposure, including matters involving parallel proceedings, fraud-related allegations, and federal sentencing.
A substantial part of Sol’s practice focuses on helping clients reduce criminal exposure and avoid indictment during government investigations, civil litigation, and other high-stakes business situations. He guides clients through sensitive matters with strategic judgment, helping them identify risks early and avoid decisions that could cause issues to escalate.
Sol has been in private practice since 1999 and has been consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in America®, Chambers, and Super Lawyers. Before entering private practice, he served from 1987 to 1997 as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Western District of Texas, where his work focused on white-collar matters.
While serving in San Antonio, Sol was Chief of the Financial Institution Fraud Unit and Health Care Fraud Coordinator. He later concluded his federal prosecutorial career as Deputy Independent Counsel in the Whitewater-Lewinsky Investigation, where he participated in the grand jury questioning of former President Clinton. Sol has first-chaired approximately 30 federal criminal jury trials.
Sol is the primary author of White Collar Crime: Securities Fraud, published by West Thomson Reuters. He also served for many years as a Contributing Editor to the White Collar Crime Prof Blog. In addition, he is a Fox News Contributor, providing commentary on constitutional and criminal law issues.
Born and raised in Houston, Sol maintains a nationwide practice, with significant experience in matters involving the Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland region. After living and working in the D.C. metro area from 1999 to 2016, he moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and returned to Houston in 2022.
