Encompassing all aspects of patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, Shane's practice is dedicated to protecting clients' innovations from competitors. He prepares patent applications in the United States and foreign jurisdictions across a diverse range of technologies, including biochemical, chemical, medical device, mechanical, and software innovations. In addition to his patent work, Shane assists clients with trademark prosecution and clearance, including the investigation of search results and the preparation of risk analyses for new trademarks.
A strong scientific foundation informs every aspect of Shane's practice. After earning his bachelor's degree in biology, he worked for PPD, Inc., a global contract research organization, where he served as an associate scientist performing complex analytical methods to analyze pharmaceutical compounds. In that role, he provided training to junior analysts and took on responsibilities including 5S management tasks and the documentation of nonconformances. This firsthand laboratory and research experience gives Shane the scientific fluency needed to engage deeply with the technical subject matter underlying his clients' inventions and to translate complex innovations into effective patent protection.
