Seth Levy leads Nixon Peabody's Intellectual Property practice group and handles some of the most complex deals at the intersection of science, health care, and innovation. Universities, research institutes, and academic medical centers turn to him for high-level counsel on technology transfer, including patent procurement and portfolio management, negotiation of commercial transactions involving IP, coordination of enforcement activities, and resolution of related disputes.
Beyond individual deals, Seth advises institutions on building and strengthening their tech transfer and venture programs. That work includes the development of incubators, accelerators, and venture funds, along with the revision of IP policies to reflect the realities of today's research landscape. He knows how these programs actually operate and the pressures they face.
Seth's transactional practice spans the full range of agreements that move research from the lab toward the marketplace, including license agreements, research and development agreements, clinical trial agreements, and consulting arrangements. He represents both academic and health care institutions and the private-sector companies that partner with them, giving him a working understanding of the priorities and constraints on both sides of these deals.
