Sebastien Roy

Sébastien Roy practices in intellectual property and commercial law. He advises and represents clients in litigation and in contractual matters in the different areas of intellectual property law, such as trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, patents and trade secrets.

Sébastien represents clients in judicial or administrative proceedings before the federal and provincial courts in infringement or unfair competition matters involving injunctions and monetary claims. He provides legal opinions and strategic advice to clients to maximize protection of their intellectual property assets and defend them against the competition.

Sébastien’s in-depth knowledge also covers contractual and transactional matters. As such, he drafts and negotiates different types of contracts, including services, license, manufacturing and distribution agreements, for both traditional and technology companies. Sébastien assists businesses for the conduct of due diligence of intellectual property assets in the context mergers and acquisitions and financings.

Sébastien's experience in trademark is recognized. He advises clients on choosing, valuing and protecting trademarks. As a trademark agent, he acts during every step in the prosecution of trademark registration in Canada and coordinates registration abroad in collaboration with foreign trademark agents.

He is often asked to intervene to protect and defend intellectual property assets online and frequently deals with e-commerce matters. Sébastien has developed competence in franchising, distribution and marketing, entertainment, media, advertising and unfair competition law.
