Scott D. Lane is the senior partner of Lane Brown LLC, a Chicago, Illinois law firm representing individuals and families in personal injury litigation matters. His practice focuses on plaintiff-side litigation involving medical and professional negligence, motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, product liability, catastrophic injuries, and wrongful death claims. Through personal injury litigation, Scott represents plaintiffs in complex cases arising from negligence and unsafe conditions.
Before entering private practice, Scott served for several years as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, Cum Laude, from Southern Methodist University in 1984 and received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1988. While attending Loyola, he was a member of the Law Review and Trial Team and received the American College of Trial Lawyers Medal for Excellence in Advocacy for his accomplishments in trial advocacy.
Scott is admitted to practice in Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a Life Member of the National Registry of Who’s Who in America and a founding member of Loyola University Chicago School of Law’s Circle of Advocates. Scott also participates in Loyola’s law student mentoring program. In 2002, he was selected as one of the 40 Attorneys Under 40 in Illinois To Watch. He has also been selected for inclusion in “Illinois Super Lawyers,” published by Law & Politics and Chicago Magazine, and became a member of The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 in 2014.
In addition to his litigation practice, Scott frequently lectures at bar association seminars on civil litigation topics. He serves as director and instructor for the Illinois State Bar Association Trial Technique Institute and is an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he has coached Loyola’s Trial Team. Scott is also a contributing author to Lane’s Goldstein Trial Technique and Lane Medical Litigation Guide and has authored numerous articles and publications related to civil litigation, including the Thomson West publication “Illinois Motions in Limine.”
Scott is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, and the American College of Legal Medicine.
Outside of his practice, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Nancy, and their two adult children, Joey and Hannah.
