Sarah Van Voorhis is a founding partner of Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP in San Francisco, California. She has practiced Family Law exclusively in California and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area since 2001. Sarah is certified in Family Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Over the course of her career, she has represented clients in a broad range of family law matters involving divorce, domestic partnerships, child custody, parentage, support issues, and complex property division.
Before co-founding Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP, Sarah developed extensive litigation experience at respected Bay Area family law firms. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine for many consecutive years, including selection to its Northern California and Northern California Women lists. Earlier in her career, she was also recognized as a Rising Star in Family Law.
In 2014, Sarah was appointed by the State Bar of California to the Family Law Advisory Commission. She also serves on the San Francisco Superior Court Settlement Master panel, assisting parties in resolving family law disputes. Sarah previously served as chairperson of the Family Law Section of the San Francisco Bar Association’s Barristers Club after serving as vice-chair. She currently serves as a Board Member of the Stanford Club of San Francisco.
Sarah’s Family Law practice includes complex marital and domestic partner dissolutions, property characterization and division, child custody and visitation matters, parentage actions, child and spousal support, and move-away cases. She has represented clients in contested move-away proceedings at the trial court level and frequently works with individuals who are resolving disputes through mediation by serving as consulting or reviewing counsel.
She is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of California, the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, the San Francisco Bar Association, and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF).
Originally from Park City, Utah, Sarah enjoys backpacking throughout the western United States and skiing during the winter months.
