Ryan Hauk is a partner in the Construction Law Group at Torkin Manes LLP and Chair of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in Toronto, Ontario. His practice focuses on construction law, commercial litigation, and dispute resolution matters involving a broad range of industries and projects across the Greater Toronto Area.
Ryan represents clients in breach of contract claims, construction lien matters, adjudications, arbitrations, shareholder and partnership disputes, and other commercial litigation matters. He regularly appears before Ontario courts, private arbitrators and mediators, and administrative tribunals.
With significant experience in construction law, Ryan advises developers, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and trades on matters involving mid- and high-rise residential condominium developments, infrastructure projects, and municipal construction projects. He provides counsel throughout all stages of the construction process, including contract drafting and negotiation, project risk management, dispute avoidance strategies, and the resolution of construction disputes.
Ryan has acted in both private and public sector disputes involving issues such as payment claims, holdback disputes, delays, scope changes, unforeseen site conditions, price escalations, contract termination, back charges, deficiencies, and remediation work. He also advises clients on construction contracts, including CCDC and CCA agreements and supplementary conditions.
Known for his practical and business-focused approach, Ryan works closely with clients to understand their operational and industry-specific concerns and provide legal advice tailored to their objectives. Clients value his responsiveness, strategic thinking, and ability to explain complex legal and construction issues in a clear and practical manner.
In addition to his legal practice, Ryan serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Queen’s University, where he teaches Canadian Construction Law.
