Biography

Ross Sutherland represents clients in Commercial Litigation, Energy Law, and Oil and Gas Law at Scott Douglass & McConnico LLP in Austin, Texas. Before beginning his legal career, Ross built and operated businesses that provided services to South Texas oilfield companies, giving him firsthand insight into the operational and business challenges facing clients in the energy industry.

Ross earned his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law, where he served as Chief Articles Editor for the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law. During law school, he also interned with the Office of General Counsel at the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Today, Ross represents clients in matters before the Railroad Commission of Texas, including MIPA applications, saltwater disposal applications and protests, flaring exceptions, and enforcement proceedings involving oil and gas operators. His practice also includes representing businesses and individuals in complex commercial litigation matters in Texas state courts.

Ross’s background as both a business owner and attorney allows him to approach legal matters with a practical understanding of the energy sector and the operational concerns that can impact his clients.

Outside of his legal practice, Ross is a three-time Wild Hog Catching World Champion and world record holder.
