Ronald D. Davis serves as Senior Counsel at Diamond and Diamond Lawyers, bringing more than 40 years of litigation experience to the firm’s class actions and complex dispute matters. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1984, Ron has appeared before courts across Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has developed litigation strategies in commercial disputes, privacy and data security matters, real estate litigation, and appellate advocacy.
Ron’s practice includes Privacy and Data Security Law, with experience involving cybersecurity incidents, digital evidence, data governance, and privacy-related class actions. He is currently involved in a constitutional matter before the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal concerning the application of British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act to Canada’s federal political parties.
With a longstanding interest in technology and the law, Ron co-founded and operated a digital forensics company and has written and presented extensively on blockchain technology, cybersecurity, privacy breaches, and related litigation issues. His background in technology-related disputes supports clients navigating evolving legal and regulatory issues involving data privacy and information security.
Ron earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Ottawa’s Common Law en français program. He later taught at the Law Society of Ontario’s Bar Admission Course for 10 years and has authored or edited more than 75 articles and books on topics including legal technology, mortgage litigation, and business valuation. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and The Advocates’ Society, and is a former member of The Sedona Conference Working Group 7 and the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group.
In addition to his legal career, Ron holds a Ph.D. in French linguistics from the University of Toronto, where he served as an Assistant Professor. He is also an accomplished jazz pianist and recording artist with 13 albums, including a 2020 JUNO Award nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year. Ron has supported a number of arts and community organizations, including The Glenn Gould Foundation, Opera 5, the Avenue Road Music and Performance Academy, and the Jazz Performance and Education Centre.
