Ronald Manes is a founding partner of Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. His practice focuses on Corporate and Commercial Litigation, as well as complex civil litigation matters. Early in his career, Ron handled both criminal and civil cases before concentrating exclusively on civil litigation, representing clients in a broad range of matters including medical malpractice claims, Competition Act proceedings, shareholder disputes, and other significant tort and commercial litigation cases.
Ron has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has acted as lead counsel to several commissions and public bodies. His litigation practice includes representing businesses, professionals, organizations, and individuals in high-stakes disputes requiring strategic advocacy and careful legal analysis.
Ron earned his undergraduate law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and his graduate law degree from Harvard Law School, where he attended on a Laidlaw Fellowship.
In addition to his litigation practice, Ron is an accomplished author who has written extensively on a wide range of legal topics. He has published four books, including “Persuasive Trial Advocacy” (Thomson Reuters, 2020).
Ron has also dedicated significant time to professional and public service. He served for many years as a Bencher (Governor) of the Law Society of Ontario and has been actively involved in access to justice initiatives, including pro bono work and volunteer service with Pro Bono Ontario.
In 2024, the Law Society of Ontario’s governing body, Convocation, awarded Ron an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and public service.
