Robert O'Donnell has been with Vandeventer Black since he joined the firm in 1975. He predominately practices litigation. Bob has been representing defendants in asbestos personal injury and wrongful death cases for the last 34 years. He has appeared in state and federal courts in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Additionally, he has been involved in numerous other types of litigation, including: commercial disputes, toxic torts, products liability and eminent domain.
Bob has also handled a number of significant matters on behalf of plaintiffs. The satisfaction he derives from helping individuals deal with particularly difficult situations is immense. He represented the family of a second year law student who was killed in a biking accident following her summer clerkship with Vandeventer. The case resulted in a substantial settlement which the family chose to use to endow scholarships in her name at her undergraduate university and at her law school. Bob has served on the selection committee for incoming law students since the scholarship was endowed in 1986.
In 2013, the Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association recognized Bob’s contributions to the legal profession by awarding him the Eggleston/I’Anson Professionalism Award.
Bob was involved in firm management for many years, and aided in the firm’s transition from a single location firm with 12 attorneys, to the multi-office, multi-state organization it is today.
