Robert Barbiero is a partner in the Litigation Group at Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Ontario. His practice focuses on Health Care Law and Medical Negligence matters, with a particular emphasis on representing regulated health professionals in regulatory, administrative, and civil proceedings.
Robert acts for physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and other regulated professionals in a broad range of matters involving professional discipline, investigations, and governance issues. He regularly appears before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as before professional Colleges, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, and the Health Services Appeal and Review Board. His work also includes advising and representing clients in complaint and s. 75 investigations, discipline proceedings, registration matters, incapacity proceedings, hospital privilege disputes, audits, and related health law matters.
Drawing on significant experience in the regulated health sector, Robert provides practical and strategic guidance tailored to the professional and reputational considerations facing health care practitioners. He works closely with clients to address complex legal and regulatory issues while helping them navigate high-stakes proceedings that may affect their careers, professional standing, and livelihoods.
In addition to his advocacy work, Robert frequently speaks on topics related to Health Care Law, professional regulation, and risk management for regulated health professionals. He has presented at universities, colleges, and industry programs throughout Ontario.
Robert’s involvement in the legal community includes serving as an elected member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Health Law Executive since 2017, including serving as past Chair of the Executive.
