Q&A

Our focus is to represent victims of sexual abuse within the civil justice system. Not only are the harms suffered by victims complex, but so too are the legal nuances in these cases. Both complexities require expertise.

  • How much is my case worth? The answer is typically “it depends” or it is “case-by-case”, which I’m sure our clients don’t like hearing. However, it’s the truth and it’s not possible to provide a fair and accurate analysis of potential case value without full information concerning a) the injuries sustained, and permanency of injuries, if any, b) applicable law, including whether there are damage “caps” that may apply, and c) applicable insurance limits.
  • How long does a lawsuit take? Again, the answer is “it depends” but a client can generally expect to get a trial setting within 12-18 months after their lawsuit is filed.
  • What is the process of a lawsuit? Because of how common this question is, we created the following video that helps explain the process of a lawsuit: Navigating the Process of a Lawsuit

We had the great fortune of representing a wonderful young woman at trial who was sexually abused by a teacher at school. The insurance company made an offer before the case was filed that insulted our client and the harm she suffered. At that point, our client made the brave decision to move forward and tell her story.  When the insurance company finally got serious about settlement, our client stood up for herself and told them it was too late. The jury heard her story and entered a substantial verdict holding the school accountable, including a finding of punitive damages.
