Biography

Ray is a partner at Dennis Dawson James Aitken LLP with a litigation practice covering both private and public law disputes. A creative problem solver, Ray has a talent for reducing complex legal issues to simple terms. Clients appreciate his straightforward and pragmatic approach.

Ray’s commercial work includes resolving disputes between company shareholders and among society members. He is retained in contract, tort, and real property cases. He acts for professionals in civil actions and before their regulators.

In the public law sphere, Ray is retained by both government entities and private clients. This work includes enforcing property rights through pre-trial applications and at trial. Ray also maintains an advisory practice, acting on behalf of witnesses across Canada in both court and non-court proceedings.

Ray appears at all levels of court in British Columbia. He has advanced and defended leave applications at the Supreme Court of Canada. He also appears before administrative tribunals, in arbitrations and mediations, and before the Federal Court of Canada and the courts of other provinces.

Best Lawyers in Canada™ has since 2025 recognized Ray as “One to Watch” in the field of Corporate and Commercial Litigation.

After law school, Ray served as the judicial law clerk to the Honourable Justice Michael Manson at the Federal Court of Canada. Ray has practiced with several of his now-partners since being called to the bar in 2019. In January 2025, he joined the firm’s partnership.
