Having worked for eight years at Momsen, Leonardos & Cia (established in 1919), Mr. LacazAmaral became a partner at Kasznar Leonardos Intellectual Property in May 2012. Hecoordinate the litigation team of the Rio de Janeiro office and acts in IP litigation before thecourts. He also provides consulting services on licensing agreements, patents, trademarks,copyrights and unfair competition, trademark prosecution, and arbitration and mediation inintellectual property.
As part of his institutional work, Mr. Lacaz Amaral chaired the Non-traditional TrademarksLatin America and Caribbean Sub-committee of the International Trademark Association -INTA (2010-2011; 2012-2013). In Brazil, he co-chaired the Enforcement Committee of theBrazilian Association of Intellectual Property - ABPI (2008-2009; 2010-2011; 2012-2013) andhas been a member of the Board since 2008.
Mr. Lacaz Amaral is also a regular teacher of IP law at the Pontifical Catholic University ofRio de Janeiro (PUC/RJ), the School of Magistracy of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ),the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV/RJ), the Candido Mendes University (UCAM) and theBrazilian Association of Industrial Property Agents (ABAPI).
In the last years, he made the final rankings in the World Trademark Review 1000 and WIPRLeaders, also being highly recommended by Best Lawyers as one of the best IP litigators inBrazil.
Furthermore, in 2013 Mr. Lacaz Amaral was awarded the Client Choice Awards in thecategory Trademarks - Intellectual Property / Brazil.
In January 2014, he became the sole representative of the Brazilian Association ofIntellectual Property – ABPI within the National Council to Combat Piracy – CNCP, agovernmental entity composed of representatives from private and public sectors, whosemain goal is to development and implement plans aimed at fighting piracy throughenforcement, educational and economic measures.
