Biography

Phil practices in the area of personal injury, which includes experience in matters regarding wrongful death, premises liability, car crashes, products liability, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, civil rights, dog bites, and insurance bad faith, among others. He has jury trial experience in both state and federal court.

Phil has several years of experience representing plaintiffs, but he also spent over four years representing insurers and defending personal injury and insurance bad-faith actions.

He received his undergraduate degree from Luther College and law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. During college he played on the baseball team and was a mathematics major inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon National Honorary Mathematics Society. During law school he competed on the arbitration team and had a student note published in the Journal of Gender, Race & Justice.

Phil worked as an extern for the Honorable Judge Stephen B. Jackson Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa and for the Honorable Judge Susan M. Brnovich of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Paul J. McMurdie of the Arizona Court of Appeals.

He is a member of the Maricopa County Bar Association, where he served as President of the Young Lawyers Division and member of the Board of Directors in 2023, co-authored a publication titled Guide to Arizona Statutes of Limitation (Phillip Lapointe et al., 2024), and authored several articles published in the Maricopa Lawyer magazine.

He is a member of the Arizona Association for Justice and serves on the Amicus Curiae Committee. He is also a member of the American Association for Justice.

He has been recognized by Super Lawyers® as a “Rising Star” each year since 2023. He was recognized by Best Lawyers in America® as a “One to Watch” in Insurance Law (2023–27); Personal Injury Litigation (2024–27); and Commercial Litigation (2024–27). He was recognized by Phoenix Magazine as a “Top Lawyer” in Personal Injury in 2024 and in Personal Injury and Insurance Coverage Bad Faith in 2026.
