Peter G. Verniero is Chair of the Sills Cummis & Gross Corporate Investigations and Integrity and Appellate Practice Groups. He is often called on to handle high‑stakes appeals and internal investigations. He leads an active appellate practice, frequently filing briefs and appearing at oral argument before appellate courts and the New Jersey Supreme Court. He has appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court a dozen times (including two cases he argued while serving as New Jersey Attorney General). In addition, he has advised numerous entities in matters pending before various state and federal regulatory or law enforcement agencies, including the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and the United States Department of Justice.
Peter Verniero joined Sills Cummis after serving as the then youngest member of the New Jersey Supreme Court in modern history. Prior to his judicial service, he served as the 51st Attorney General of New Jersey as well as chief of staff and chief counsel to Governor Christine Todd Whitman. He is the only person in the state’s history to have served in those four senior positions within the executive and judicial branches.
