Paul has profound experience in the area of sports and employment law. He has been involved in the drafting, reviewing and advising on constitutions, policies and by-laws for incorporated associations and LLCs. This includes the drafting of a new constitution for Commonwealth Games Australia to facilitate their transfer from an incorporated association to a limited liability corporation after 37 years, as well as drafting the policies and by-laws to accompany that constitution.
Paul has extensive experience in interviewing high level clients and ensuring that entities abide by their legislative requirements in avoiding conflicts of interest and other governance-related compliance requirements. His clients include national sporting organisations, international athletes and amateur sports leagues.
Paul’s expertise includes all aspects of anti-doping matters, representing and advising both major sports organisations and numerous high profile athletes for over 15 years. Paul and his firm represents clients in a lot of sports and tribunal litigation both at a local level and nationally at the National Sports Tribunal, as well as internationally before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Paul also drafts governance papers and handbooks for client distribution on areas of employment law, child safety, sports law and best practice governance practices. He has also prepared reports based on interviewing key stakeholders and board members on contentious matters within a major state sporting organisation in 2018 where breaches of governance duties had been alleged.
