Biography
Paul Fildes is an Accredited Family Law Specialist with over four decades of experience, having practised exclusively in family law since 1983. Recognised nationally for his expertise, Paul is ranked as one of the Preeminent Family & Divorce Lawyers in Melbourne by Doyle’s Guide 2026 and is also recognised nationally as a Leading Family & Divorce Lawyer. Paul has been consistently listed by Doyle’s Guide as a Preeminent family lawyer every year from 2019 through 2026, reflecting his long-standing reputation for excellence.
Paul’s practice focuses on complex property litigation, high net worth financial matters, cross-border disputes, prenuptial Financial Agreements, and tax-effective restructuring of family assets. He has a particular interest in international property and relocation cases, involving assets across Asia, Europe, the UK, and the USA.
As a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), Paul is part of a global network of leading family law professionals, enabling him to navigate international legal complexities with precision and insight.
From 1993 to 2010, Paul was a partner at Middletons (now K&L Gates), where he established and led the Family Law Practice Group, transforming the firm’s capabilities in this area. In 2010, he merged his practice with Taussig Cherrie & Associates to form Taussig Cherrie Fildes.
Paul is a respected educator and thought leader in family law. He presents Case Watch for the Television Education Network, contributes regularly to legal publications, and speaks at seminars hosted by professional bodies, with a focus on complex financial issues in family law.
He is also a qualified Family Law Arbitrator, Mediator, and trained Collaborative Lawyer, offering clients a range of dispute resolution options.
