Paul Baker

A founder of Meridian Lawyers and Managing Principal, Paul’s reputation as a leading insurance and health lawyer has been realised through his involvement in a number of high profile cases – in particular the generic substitution litigation in the early 1990s, the 1995 Fairfax litigation, a number of high profile sports litigation matters. He has acted as the principal legal adviser to Guild Insurance Limited since the 1980s, dealing with professional indemnity claims, defamation, directors and officers, general liability policy issues, drafting policy wordings and policy interpretation.

Paul has acted for a wide ranging insurance client base, including local and overseas insurers and underwriters, giving him a tremendous breadth of insurance experience. His extensive private and in-house insurance background gives him the edge in providing clients with knowledgeable and informed legal advice. He is an excellent negotiator, personable and a highly skilled communicator.

Paul was recognised in the 2017 and 2018 editions of Best Lawyers for his expertise in Insurance Law and was nominated as a Finalist in the annual Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards in the category of Managing Partner of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
