Nichad earned his JD from the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where he was awarded the Janette Soles Nelson Public Service Scholarship. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Before entering the legal profession, Nichad worked as an educator through Teach For America, teaching middle school students in Eastern North Carolina. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina.
