Biography

Nathan Shoff assists individuals and families throughout Rochester, New York and the surrounding Finger Lakes region with trusts and estates matters, helping clients prepare for the legal and financial challenges that can accompany aging, illness, incapacity, and death. At Lacy Katzen LLP, he counsels clients on developing estate plans tailored to their personal, family, and financial goals. His work includes advising clients on the selection of fiduciaries, such as executors, trustees, and agents under powers of attorney, as well as planning for the transfer and preservation of assets for spouses, children, grandchildren, and charitable beneficiaries.

With more than a decade of legal experience, Nathan prepares and reviews a wide range of estate planning documents, including Last Wills and Testaments, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, and Living Wills. He works closely with clients to create thoughtful estate plans designed to address both current needs and future considerations.

Nathan also advises elderly and disabled individuals and their families regarding long-term care planning and Medicaid eligibility in New York. He helps clients navigate Medicaid rules and regulations while working to preserve assets and secure access to available long-term care benefits. His trusts and estates practice includes guidance on asset protection strategies and planning for incapacity.

Following the death of a loved one, Nathan assists executors, administrators, and trustees with estate and trust administration matters. He guides fiduciaries through probate proceedings, estate settlement, trust administration, and related Surrogate’s Court proceedings, helping ensure that estate plans are carried out in accordance with the decedent’s wishes and applicable New York law.

After graduating from the University at Buffalo School of Law, Nathan began his legal career with a small general practice firm in Buffalo, New York. In 2008, he relocated to the Rochester and Finger Lakes region to work as a legal editor with Thomson West while continuing his private law practice in estate planning, estate administration, family law, and residential real estate. In 2016, he returned his focus primarily to trusts and estates law. Nathan has also presented public and private seminars on estate planning topics, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
