Michel Gélinas is a partner in the Corporate Group and a member of the Professional and Ethics Committee, which deals with the firm’s policies and related matters.
Michel focuses on domestic and cross-border mergers & acquisitions, private equity, venture capital and capital market transactions. Michel regularly represents US, European and other international clients investing in Canada through M&A, joint ventures, and greenfield operations. Earlier in his career, Michel worked in the firm's New York office for several years.
In addition to his transactional practice, Michel serves as de facto general counsel to Canadian privately-held companies providing general business law advice on various matters such as raising capital and financing, licensing and distribution, negotiating commercial agreements, executive employment law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. He also advises international companies doing business in Canada on many aspects of their operations.
Michel advises clients in a wide range of industries and sectors, including food processing and distribution, manufacturing and distribution, pharmaceutical, healthcare and related sectors, publishing, renewable energy, retail, technology, media and telecommunications, and transportation.
Michel is a member of the Quebec and Canadian Bar Associations and a member of the American Bar Association, where he is active in the following committees of the Business Law Section: Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Venture Capital Committees, as well as the Middle Market, where he is currently Co-Chair of the Expansion and Cross-Border Transactions Subcommittee. Michel also sits on the Business Law Section’s Publication Board.
Michel is also a member of the Canadian Venture Capital Association, the Quebec MBA Association, the Montreal Chamber of Commerce and Réseau Capital, Quebec's private equity and venture capital association.
Michel is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The American Bar Foundation is a selective honorary organization whose members have been elected by their peers because of their outstanding achievements in the legal profession.
