Michael Townsend is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, where he represents companies and business owners in commercial disputes throughout New Jersey and New York. He works with clients ranging from startups and family-owned businesses to large professional services firms, guiding matters from early strategy through trial.
Michael helps clients resolve external disputes, such as breach of contract, as well as internal conflicts — including shareholder oppression, breach of fiduciary duty, and other disputes among business owners and managers. He also represents clients in zoning, land use, and regulatory matters involving municipal boards, administrative agencies, and state regulatory bodies.
Before joining Norris McLaughlin, Michael practiced complex commercial litigation at a national law firm. He draws on this background to deliver representation that is both sophisticated and cost-effective.
A graduate of Georgetown Law, Michael served as a judicial intern to U.S. Magistrate Judge Lois H. Goodman — an experience that taught him that effective negotiation is every bit as important as courtroom advocacy, and that every decision should be guided by the client’s unique goals.
