Biography
Michael Koplan's practice focuses primarily on civil litigation with an emphasis in construction law and government contracts. He represents general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, sureties, owners, and developers on both private and public construction projects, in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and in arbitrations and mediations.
He is experienced in a broad range of construction matters, including preparing and negotiating contract documents, indemnity and insurance coverage disputes, delay and impact claims, extra work claims, construction defect disputes, differing site conditions, mechanic's liens, payment and performance bond claims, terminations, and surety takeover agreements.
Michael has prosecuted and defended construction claims in excess of $100 million in value. He has represented clients at the federal and state level, including cases in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, the District of Columbia, New York, Arizona, and Nevada. Representative projects include hotels and resorts, hospitals, laboratories, large residential and condominium projects, commercial buildings, federal courthouses, a lock and dam project, and various other private and public projects.
