Michael Kay

Michael leads Wallmans Lawyers' corporate workplace relations and safety practice. The practice has both a litigious and advisory focus. Michael has a significant client base, having acted for some of the largest employers and insurers in South Australia and Australia.

Michael has been repeatedly recognised in Best Lawyers Australia in Labour and Employment Law and Occupational Health and Safety Law. Additionally he is listed in Doyles Guide as a Leading Employment Lawyer and Leading WHS Lawyer.

Michael provides clients with day-to-day advice in relation to all aspects of proactive workplace relations and employment management, including the review and preparation of enterprise agreements, contracts of employment, workplace policies and procedures, and conducting workplace training.

Michael has particular expertise representing employers in claims arising from the termination of employment, workers compensation, injury management, workplace health and safety, performance management, allegations of underpayment, social media, redundancies and restructures, workplace surveillance and discrimination.

Michael acts for both vendors and purchasers in relation to employment law due diligence arising from mergers and acquisitions. Michael also assists clients with union disputation, including actual or threatened industrial action and/or the negotiation of enterprise agreements.

Michael has a significant background in litigation, having defended claims in most employment related jurisdictions, including the Federal Circuit Court, the Federal Court of Australia, the Fair Work Commission, and the South Australian Employment Tribunal.

Michael has combined degrees in both Laws and Legal Practice (Honours) and Behavioural Science (Organisational Psychology). Active in his field, Michael frequently presents at industry conferences and conducts in-house training for clients across all sectors.
