Michael J. Balch is a member of the Firm's Insurance and Reinsurance practice group.
Michael focuses his practice on complex reinsurance, insurance coverage, and product liability matters. He has experience in all phases of litigation, including trials and appeals, and has appeared in state and federal courts across the country.
Michael represents clients in coverage actions involving environmental, asbestos, silica, lead paint, and other toxic tort claims. He also represents parties in connection with claims regarding directors' and officers' liability insurance, first-party property and business interruption insurance, professional liability and errors and omissions insurance, and employment practices liability insurance. Michael has defended clients in numerous product liability cases, including actions involving tobacco products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and industrial machinery.
Michael also has experience advising clients in connection with insurance coverage, products liability, and general litigation aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs and other divestitures, and transactions in bankruptcy proceedings.
Michael maintains an active pro bono appellate practice, representing parties in appeals in state and federal courts in criminal, civil rights and immigration matters.
