Biography
Michael Lowe is a business counselor, advocate, and litigator who represents companies in complex commercial disputes and provides legal guidance on construction, labor and employment, and related business matters. Based in Shreveport, Louisiana, Michael practices with Kean Miller and is recognized in Louisiana by Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. Clients value his practical approach, thoughtful analysis, and focus on efficient resolution while serving as outside legal counsel to businesses operating throughout the state.
Michael concentrates his practice on Litigation – Construction, along with broader commercial litigation and employment-related disputes. He represents businesses in state and federal courts across multiple jurisdictions and assists clients at every stage of dispute avoidance and dispute resolution, both inside and outside the courtroom.
Michael’s practice includes the resolution of complex construction and commercial litigation, as well as providing real-time advice on construction and employment issues as they arise. He devotes significant time to assisting municipalities and government agencies with disputes involving Louisiana civil service laws and related regulations.
In addition, Michael represents employers in matters involving investigations and enforcement actions by federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights, and the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.
Michael advises employers on human resources policies and procedures, drafts and enforces employment agreements such as non-competition, confidentiality, and non-solicitation agreements, and provides counsel on hiring, discipline, and termination decisions. He also represents businesses in disputes involving restrictive covenants and assists with the defense and resolution of Americans with Disabilities Act access cases, sometimes referred to as “drive-by” or “Google” lawsuits.
Michael’s construction litigation experience spans all phases of dispute resolution and trial practice. He represents general contractors, subcontractors, and project owners in matters involving engineer and architect claims, public bid and procurement disputes, and administrative protests. His work also includes drafting and reviewing construction contracts, advising on Louisiana lien laws under the Public and Private Works Acts, and utilizing arbitration and mediation to help control project disruption and legal costs.
Michael frequently serves as outside general counsel to businesses throughout Louisiana, providing strategic guidance on legal risk, compliance, and dispute management. He is committed to clear communication, careful evaluation of legal and business considerations, and practical solutions tailored to each client’s objectives.
